On Friday, September 8, 2017, Lagos State Ministry of Education hosted Heads of Primary and Secondary schools in Lagos State in the Herbert Macaulay Library, Yaba for a CodeLagos stakeholder’s session. This was done as part of preparation for the official launch and roll out of new coding centre in the 2nd phase of the project.
Present at the session were principals of government schools – both Primary and Secondary – as well as privates schools from across the State including members of The Association of Private Educators in Nigeria (APEN).
In her welcome address to the stakeholders, the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo appreciated the attendees for not just honouring the invitation but embracing the vision of CodeLagos as a timely initiative by the Government. She later enjoined them to support the project in their various schools.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh was also on ground to interact with the school principals and head teachers. He explained to them the various components of the implementation process of the project. He also reiterated the commitment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the project and the need for their full support. In his word, “We as government can’t achieve the goal alone; we need you to become champions of the project in your associations and schools”.
The session was very interactive; participants engaged the project team, asking questions and giving their suggestions on how the project’s objectives can be achieved.
In September, 2017, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will launch the 2nd phase of CodeLagos which will have more schools, most of which were represented in Friday’s session commence the CodeLagos training.
