Since the commencement of classes in the 4th batch of the CodeLagos Out-of-School (OOS) programme on August 6, 2018, the 21 training centres across the State have been a beehive of activities.
We are currently in the 5th week of the training programme, and the students, feeling privileged to be part of the free coding initiative, are already on their way to building a career in computer programming.
Some of the officials from the Ministry of Education went around some of the coding centres to get the pulse of the programme and hear firsthand from the participants, as they share about their experience so far. Here are some of their comments.
“I started coding as a hobby but taking the CodeLagos Classes has helped me see that coding is a life skill that will shape the future and forth-coming generations.” – Kema Odumah, an Engineer in the Java Programming class.
“So far, I have learned how to create web pages from scratch using HTML and CSS. I have also been able make new friends who are also eager to learn and improve on their skills. I must add that our instructor is very good!” – Lucas Sunday, a Student in the Web Development Class
“I joined CodeLagos classes to acquire programming skills. I used to think it was difficult to understand but to my surprise, learning Java has been fun. Each day I come to class, I have the desire to learn more!” Ogunmosu John, a student in the Java Programming class
“The CodeLagos programme is an initiative that adds value to you regardless of your profession. With the help of this programme you can sell yourself to the public by creating your own website and even be self-employed. Akinyemi Rukoyat, a Teacher in the Web Development class.
“I am very grateful for this programme. I didn’t have any knowledge about coding before but with the help of CodeLagos, I have been able to develop basic calculating app with JAVA programming Language. I really appreciate Lagos State Government for this great initiative. The practical class of CodeLagos has helped in understanding coding better. Thank you, Lagos State Government, for this opportunity.” – Saanu Oluwamayokun Ezekiel, a Student, JAVA programming language
“I see CodeLagos as beneficial to Lagosians. Programming does not only teach you how to code but helps you in critical thinking. JAVA programming has taught me new mathematical skills and helped me think critically. I say a very BIG THANK YOU to the Lagos State government for this great initiative.” – Jeremiah Olisa, a student in the JAVA programming class
“CodeLagos has been nice. It is a good initiative from Lagos State Government. It is an initiative that can help reduce unemployment. I have learned new things in the web development classes and I enjoy myself. Thanks to the facilitators, they have been encouraging and accommodating so far. I would like to say thank you to the Government for giving us the privilege to learn coding. We don’t need to wait for white collar jobs to earn a living, CodeLagos has given us the skills to create our world. – Amokunmosa Ruth Taiwo, Student in the Web development class.
