Code Lagos aims to teach coding to 1 million students in Lagos State by 2019. To achieve this goal, thousands of facilitators will be mobilized across the State over the next few years.
As the Lagos State Ministry of Education advances in the planning stages for CodeLagos, a website has been set up to provide information to the general public on various components of the project, including the proposed model, the financial implications of the project, and an overview of partnership opportunities. Also currently up on the site is an application form for would-be facilitators to indicate their interest in training students at one of the coding centers.
“We have not sent out the official call for applications for facilitators, but we observed that people have already begun to fill the application form online. This gives us a good indication that there are high levels of interest and provides insight into the availability of human resources for this comprehensive project,” said a representative of the Ministry of Education.
About 1,200 facilitators will be selected in the initial pool for the 2017 roll-out of the programme. Successful applicants will undergo a rigorous training programme with Code Lagos technical partners to prepare them to effectively deliver the coding curriculum.
Interested facilitators need not have a prior knowledge of coding even though IT savvy would be an added advantage.
