Lagos State will Invest in CodeLagos – Gov. Ambode

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday stated that Lagos state government will invest in CodeLagos come 2017. Code Lagos which is an initiative of Lagos State Ministry of Education aimed at teaching 1 million students to code by 2019, will make Lagos State  the technology frontier in Africa.

The governor made this known at the presentation of the Year 2017 Budget proposal of N813 billion to the House of Assembly. The budget which is N150 billion higher than that of 2016 was aptly tagged “The Golden Jubilee Budget” by the Governor because it coincides with the State’s 50th Anniversary. It is also the biggest ever proposed by any Nigerian state.

Gov. Ambode Unveils CodeLagos

His Excellency, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday November 11, 2016 officially unveiled the CodeLagos Project to the business community as parts of the efforts of His administration to meet the growing technology demand of Lagos, the mega City-State.

Speaking at the event, which had in attendance captains of industries, policy makers, investors, and other education stakeholders from both public and private sector,the Governor, represented by Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, stated that the primary aim of the initiative “is to meet the growing demand for technical skills”. These skills are necessary to drive the economy of the State. It will develop a workforce that would speak a universal digital language and provide solutions to myriad of socio-economic problems confronting the society”.
