CodeLagos Trains Another Set of 214 Facilitators

As part of preparation to commence coding classes in Primary and Secondary schools in the new term, Lagos State Government held a master training programme for 214 CodeLagos facilitators to ensure they are better equipped to deliver the CodeLagos Coding Framework to students in their various schools.

The training which occurred simultaneously in 3 different centre; Alimosho, Badagry and Ajah was put together for existing CodeLagos facilitators who delivered the training in their various centres last year.

CODELAGOS: 15,000 Trained As Ambode Approves Next Phase Of Initiative With 5,000 Coding Centres To Open This Year

Pleased with the success of the first phase of the CodeLagos initiative with over 15,000 individuals trained so far, Lagos State Governor, Mr.  Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the implementation of the next phase of the initiative, focused on expanding the reach and scope of the project to cater for more Lagos residents through its “In–School” and “Out-of-School” pathways.
 
CodeLagos, which has set the goal of teaching 1 million Lagos residents basic coding skills, was initiated in 2016.

CodeLagos 2018 kicks off: Stakeholders’ Brain Storm on Next Steps

On Thursday March 22, 2018, critical Stakeholders in the CodeLagos project met at the Herbert Macaulay Library, Yaba for the first Stakeholders’ session for 2018.  The aim of the session was to take a cursory look at the activities of CodeLagos in 2017; to evaluate the project’s implementation process, impact made as well as challenges faced and lessons learnt.

At the session was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, leading the team of Government officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Education including the Tutor-Generals Permanent secretary of the 6 Educational Districts.  Also present were representatives of the implementation partners of the project, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and CodeLagos Delivery Partners whose responsibility is to supervise the actual implementation of the training programme across the various centres in the State.

CodeLagos teams with industry leader Oracle

Lagos State Government on Tuesday February 27, 2018 signed an agreement with leading cloud company, Oracle, on the CodeLagos initiative of the Ministry of Education at the  ongoing Social Media Week Lagos event at Landmark Centre.

 

During the session, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela bank-Olemoh announced the collaboration with Oracle and expressed appreciation to the company for collaborating with the State to provide access to Computer Science Education for Lagosians through the CodeLagos initiative. He also shared that the administration of the His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is committed to exploring and promoting necessary partnerships between the public and private sector to deliver quality governance to Lagos residents, especially in the area of human capacity development.

CodeLagos Stakeholders’ session with heads of Schools

On Friday, September 8, 2017, Lagos State Ministry of Education hosted Heads of Primary and Secondary schools in Lagos State in the Herbert Macaulay Library, Yaba for a CodeLagos stakeholder’s session. This was done as part of preparation for the official launch and roll out of new coding centre in the 2nd phase of the project.

Present at the session were principals of government schools – both Primary and Secondary – as well as privates schools from across the State including members of The Association of Private Educators in Nigeria (APEN).

In her welcome address to the stakeholders, the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo appreciated the attendees for not just honouring the invitation but embracing the vision of CodeLagos as a timely initiative by the Government. She later enjoined them to support the project in their various schools.
